Stockton’s Labour Cabinet will be forced to reconsider the controversial scrapping of free car parking in Yarm.
Local Conservative MP Matt Vickers has praised the decision of councillors, after a Conservative motion to reinstate free car parking in Yarm was passed unanimously.
It doesn’t necessarily mean that one-hour free parking will be reinstated but it will mean the Labour Council will be forced to consult with local businesses and reconsider the decision.
Matt’s petition was signed by thousands of local people. In addition, a recent survey conducted by the local MP on Labour’s changes to Yarm’s High Street found that 96% of residents disagreed with the Council’s decision to scrap one-hour free car parking in the town.
Stockton’s Conservative MP Matt Vickers said:
“I am delighted Stockton Council has unanimously backed our Conservative motion, forcing the Labour Cabinet to reconsider their decision to scrap 1-hour free car parking in Yarm and properly consult with local businesses.
“This doesn’t mean 1-hour free parking will be reinstated – the ball is now in Labour’s court. They must listen to the overwhelming views of residents and bring back our free car parking so that everyone can enjoy what Yarm has to offer, and local businesses can thrive.”
Matt is continuing his campaign to stop Labour’s attack on Yarm – which recently included what he called barmy plans to litter the high street with new ‘rusty planters’ and remove access to Yarm’s final two pontoons.
