Matt Vickers MP has continued his campaign to protect Cleveland’s frontline firefighters as thousands of local people back calls for fairer funding.
The Stockton West MP has thrown his support behind the campaign, warning that firefighters cannot continually be expected to deliver more with fewer resources.
Matt has repeatedly raised the issue in Parliament and earlier this year secured a dedicated debate on fire and rescue service funding, putting the pressures facing Cleveland Fire Brigade directly to Government ministers.
He has also highlighted the unique demands faced by Cleveland’s firefighters, who protect communities across Teesside alongside some of the most important industrial sites in the country.
With growing public support for action to protect frontline services, Matt has said he will continue making the case in Westminster for Cleveland’s firefighters to receive the resources they need.
Stockton's Conservative MP Matt Vickers said:
“This petition should be a wake-up call for the Labour Government. Thousands of local people are saying loud and clear that they will not accept cuts that could put frontline fire cover at risk.
“Cleveland’s firefighters already face some of the toughest demands in the country. They protect our homes, our communities and some of the most strategically important industrial sites in Britain. Asking them to keep doing more with less simply isn’t sustainable.
“I’ve raised Cleveland’s fire funding in Parliament before and I’ll keep fighting for a fair deal. Ministers need to listen to our firefighters, listen to local people and find the funding needed to protect frontline services.
“When it comes to keeping people safe, there can be no compromise.”
Matt has said he will continue standing up for Cleveland’s firefighters and pressing the Government to ensure frontline services are properly protected.
