The new facilities will deliver quicker and less invasive surgery for patients, meaning people won’t need to stay in hospital for as long, as well as providing vital emergency maternity facilities for women.
Local MP Matt Vickers has visited the amazing new facilities at North Tees Hospital, which builds on significant investment in recent years from the last Conservative government, including the new Diagnostic Hospital in Stockton and a new Respiratory Unit at North Tees.
The local MP toured the new facilities at the hospital, met with doctors, consultants and nurses working in the new theatres, and even had a chance to try out the robotic surgery equipment for himself using a virtual reality training game.
The £4.3m state-of-the-art facility is one of the most ambitious estates projects in the hospital’s history and consists of a robotic operating theatre and a new emergency maternity theatre.
The robotic theatre is equipped with the ‘Da Vinci robotic surgeon’, nicknamed 'Robbie' by a patient. The new emergency maternity theatre is close to the delivery ward suite and is designed to provide the best clinical environment to support surgeons in delivering what are often life-saving procedures.
Stockton’s Conservative MP Matt Vickers said:
“It was amazing to get into scrubs and see the incredible new facilities at North Tees Hospital first-hand!
The new theatres include cutting-edge robotic surgery, meaning the hospital can deliver quicker and less invasive procedures for patients, so people won’t need to stay in hospital for as long.
This is fantastic news for Stockton and comes on top of a huge amount of local investment from the last Conservative government into our local NHS.
Our amazing NHS staff at North Tees are Grade A – and now they have Grade A facilities to work in too!”
